Is this the end of the Tran-Ex Diff sage , just when they had developed a trials diff?

http://www.tran-x.com/

Due to Auto Sport Engineering’s (Tran-X Parent Company) substantial growth and the fact key members of Tran-X staff are moving on, Tran-X will cease trading within the next 3 months.

Pure special building. Ground clearance may pose a problem but might be some ideas here although John Blakely may have one or two scrutineering issues?

I'm seeking to replace the Triumph uprights on the Dutton for something without trunnions. Anyone got suggestions as to what easily available uprights I might use?

Well the competitive part of my Land End was shorter than expected. I was in my Beetle with Mike Hayward and we went round with my mate Neil who wanted to fulfil his ambition of doing the event in his Rover V8 powered Skoda Rapide. Enjoyed the night run from Michael Wood Services to Bridgewater. The Regularity Test certainly gives that added enjoyment.

Appreciated a decent sized restart box at Felons Oak but cocked up the tarmac Special Test by not reading the instructions properly. All 4 wheels over B instead of stopping astride then stopped astride C instead of flying finish. All own to me.

Got to Barbrook to find people and cars and people everywhere and a 30 minute Q for the control (thats on foot not in the car). Good job it wasn't raining! The smart people sent someone for refreshments so they could eat while waiting. IMHO the problem was that competitors didn't obey the instruction to wait at the preceding unmanned holding control.

Shame about having to make Beggars artificial with all that tape. Do you get penalised for hitting it? Have to look in the instructions.

Delighted to clean Rodneys Revenge for the first time in years. Waited at the road for Neil who didn't come. Along comes Simon Groves to tell me Neil has broken down on the exit track. We go back to help and find a drive shaft has broken. He had a spare but it took the four of us more than an hour and a half to fit by which time it was light, the course closing car had long gone and we found the diff had locked as well.

Nearly got locked in the forest as nobody came to check the exit track was clear but I had spotted the marshals leaving on a track below and ran to tell them we were still there.

Got the car out of the forest. Called the AA who weren't bothered about the Skoda being a trials car. AA took the Skoda and gave Neil a hire vehicle and we went down to see Blue Hills and distract Dave Cook (sorry Dave)

This may seem a silly question but it is one i need answering.
We are getting there with this  Marlin trials  build took a lot longer than anticipated i can tell you, several u turns  in power plant choice did not help mind.
i will post pictures when it is completed i am at the stage of sorting out wheels, i will be using MGB rostyles they are plentiful and i have lots anyway. NOW????

Wheel bolts or locking lugs rim locks Tyre clamps. not sure what others call them, but basically they hold  lyres run on low pressure on to the beed to stop instant deflation.
  My questions !

1 .. Obviously they are legal to use !!  --   Are  they ?
 2.. How many to fit.
3  Advice on construction  and fitting
4 I Would rather make my own  if at all possible but can you buy them and where from.

One last question as an after thought, i am ready  to drill the 575 van drum brake hubs to take the disks, i fitted  a old BMC ex riley 1100 remote brake servo with the std front disks, it works fine. But not sure how many are out there now. This got me thinking with the twin leading shoe  drums being kind of self sevoing and taking into account i wont use this car on the road much. should i fit the drums rether than convert to disks.?
Instinct tells me the disks will clear better in mud etc, but what are others thoughts based on experience of drums on marlins or other cars in trials situations. ?

We had a grand day, helped by the fact we were in a closed car with a heater that just about dribbled in a bit of warm air. It started windy, poured with rain. Then the sun came out but that was just a teaser before the snow came. When the snow eased off along came the hail followed by a cold wind. But you don't go to Cumbria in February to top up your tan!

We had a great run, cleaned some sections, failed some we shouldn't have and wallowed in the mud for a few high scores on a couple more. Not Sandale though. Got the bug wound up and we hit the muddy bit flat out in first without any wheelspin. The ruts kept us on the track through the restart area and we maintained enough speed to require some heavy braking when we got to the road. Epic :-)

Nigel Jones had his sump guard fall off on the first section and being a gentleman I stopped to help. After that we were running pretty much towards the back of the field and experienced quite a few delays as the marshals extricated competitors from some of the muddy sections.

We felt sorry for John, June and Alex who were marshalling the last section and hadn't seen a car for ages when we arrived. Poor Johns face really dropped when I told him there were at least half a dozen behind us!

Got to the food at the finish about 5.45. One or two bogs, sorry sections, apart we really enjoyed it though. Its my 4th Northern and I plan to be back next year.

How was your Northern Trial?

Just a quick reminder that entries close in just over 1 week, and that only a handful of entries are left - so be quick in order to avoid disappointment.

You can download the regs & entry form, see the current entry list and generally find out what's going on by visiting www.marchhare.info

I've eventually got round to loading my Cotswold Clouds Photos.  I went to Crooked Mustard and Bulls Bank.  Crooked Mustard was difficult, as it was difficult to find a place where a most of the cars got too, there were lots of trees around and foliage to get in the way, finally lots of Spectators, so I had to shoot around them.  Bulls Bank was almost the exact opposite, easy track, wide open spaces few spectators, not spectacular photos but very good shots of cars against the snow, which was much thicker around Bulls bank than Crooked Mustard.

Anyway here they are:-

and as usual if you want to buy any photos they can be purchased here:-
